When it comes to pre-VIN numbers if the vehicle has a clear title it does not matter what the number stamp looks like. To get the title the numbers had to be verified by the DMV as legitimate and not turn up stolen or totaled. Back in the day if a customer had a problem that required cases the dealer was often the one whom stamped the customers number on the replacement cases. Throughout the years Harley did this and that with no reason.

Sadly we do not live in a perfect world. Evidence what is happening in the world this very minute. Even top officials lie under oath. I do not condone theft/crime. Iron head cases are 40+ years old these days. If DMV will put a title on it use it.
