Default Gen Light stays on

I have an 86 1100. The gen lamp stays on even though the gen is putting out. The gen lamp does not seem to appear on the schematic for this bike in the factory manual. Is this light controlled by a relay somewhere? Where this lamp does not show on the I can't just follow the path to what regulates this lamp. It comes on as it should long with the oil lamp but then when I start it the oil lamp goes off as it should but the gen lamp stays on....

Thanks for your reply...... Bad diode? Even if the gen is putting out 13.8V?

Evo model Sportsters DO NOT have a GEN light (nor a generator), nor any light to indicate the Alternator/Regulator is working properly...

The indicator lights are:
R & L Turn Signal (When ON)
Oil Pressure (When Low)
HiBeam Headlight (When ON)
Neutral (Transmission Position)
No Generator Light...

So, which indicator light on your 1986 is staying lit? Color? Position?
Can you post a picture?

super +1 mr. lax
neutral light if not in gear and when in gear, short to ground via the wire or switch.

While I have you guys here... another question... I am thinking about changing the exhaust, it has what appears to be stock now with the cross pipe that goes between the front and rear pipes... is it true this adds horse power and if you put an exhaust set up with out the cross pipe you loose horse power???

this would be a GOOD "?" for mr. hammer
every exh sys has +/-"s
the stock is pretty good for what it is as hd spent some coin in developing it, however, we are NEVER satisfied with just so. that said, ALL parts MUST play nice or not at all, just eye candy.
i run a modified 2001 sport and 1st went with drags and a lot of tinkering to get it to run good, still had a dip. i now run the danmoto highwayman and it really brings out the upper rpm power. each machine is its own, research, research and you guessed it research some more.
wrong item=less outcome!!!
