Thanks guys.

Picked up the new bike late Wednesday afternoon. Took it for a run up the mountain….. so much power and I’m still in grandpa mode haha. They tell me it will power wheelie in 5th gear! I believe them! It’s crazy fast. The suspension is amazing, ohlins electronically controlled racing suspension. No dials or screws to adjust compression and rebound, it’s all done on the dash. Or you can set it to active sports or touring mode and the damn thing will adjust its self to suit riding conditions. Mind blown. Brakes are great. Riding position is very similar to my xr, so the transition in that department has been pretty smooth. But it’s got a shit ton more power than the xr, I mentioned the power already? It’s a lot of fun man wow!

Here she is before my first ride, straight from the dealers, completely stock.

I put a Ventura rear rack on it this morning, threw on one of my old bags, removed the ugly warning stickers from the tank and adjusted the hand controls and mirrors. The mirrors are hopeless, they will have to go for some barend mirrors. Needs oil cooler and radiator guards, which are on their way, and that’s about it for now. Oh and a tail tidy, it’s going to need one of them in the near future, that thing sticking out the back is a bit hideous haha.

Maybe next year I might give it a run at benaraby all bike drags. Launching it will be tricky, if I can work that out expect to see mid to high 10’s.
From what I’ve read a lot of people change the exhaust and get a tune but it doesn’t need it in my opinion. I’ve only been using standard power mode, the power wheelies are plentiful in standard. I might need a pilots license for sports mode
If you get a chance, test ride one, just to experience the acceleration, so fast, very addictive.

Sounds good! they are supposed to have same performance as an older R1. So I would think if going to drags try to lower the bike a bit would help, when I was at Sydney Drags a lot knew some people racing R1's & GSX1 so on and they ran in the high 9's , as they road bike to the track. but depended on the rider a lot.
I think a light weight muffler would have to cut some weight off so would be good.

Davo, I suspect your bike has capabilities that far exceed 90% of the members here. Your familiarity will develope and you’ll start pushing your limits, it comes with territory. Enjoy it my friend and try to stay safe. Color me envious!

They say the MT10 engine is a detuned R1 engine but if you dig a little deeper you find out the fuel system, intake and exhaust are different. The crank is heavier, it has less compression than the r1, so it’s more of a retuned r1 engine than a detuned. All this gives you a more user friendly engine for the road, but the acceleration is still there because the mt10 has lower gearing than the r1.
I can’t see myself lowering the bike just for drags, I would only go to the drags for a bit of fun.

It far exceeds my capabilities aswell haha. I will never out ride this bike and that’s what I like about it.
I like to think I reached a level of maturity to finally own such a bike. 10,20,30 years ago I would of felt obligated to ride such a bike flat out everywhere. The end result probably wouldn’t of been pretty. I’ve mellowed man

MT10SP is built on a previous version of a R1 platform...
retuned for street intended riding on everything that could matter
in addition SP version has top notch adaptive Ohlins... really a great piece of work for non prof use environment in mass market...

IMHO a bike like this is wasted on a drag strip... I'd see her much better on a track... or a mountain road (misto veloce)...

enjoy Davo
ride safe... you have a beast...
I'd passed moment like that... with other bikes...
the more dangerous moments are when you begin to think selfconfident about your ability to tame her

pay respect to her... and she will never desert you
