Default Buying another IH

So I found this awesome looking IH on line for sale, owner says it needs clutches and an oil pump due to metal shavings in the motor, I made a more detailed post about it here. Anyway I wanted to pay some pictures of the bike so here they are.

I don't care if I have to rebuild the motor she's mine. I just got out of prison two months ago, I'm still living in a homeless shelter. I have an apartment just waiting for the remodel to get finished. I just started working as a welder/fabricator and this bike reached out and smacked me in the face. I don't even have a license yet but I'm paying the fine next week. I'm gonna put her on the road asap. Maybe a month.

I allways wanted a kicker. So how often does one get thrown from a kicker when trying to start? I heard one story where a bike broke this guy's leg and it came through his skin. That would suck.

I just wanted to show her off. I'm excited about her..

Too much money for a broken bike. You can easily spend $3000 to properly rebuilt an Ironhead motor.

Drag pipes usually cause a flat spot, crappy mileage, power loss.

Those forward controls are not done any kind of right.

Does it have a front brake? I won't ride without one.
You will not find a good used brake a GMA brake is $350

Can of worms, I'm not going to sugar coat bad news.
I hope you can get out of the purchase.

For the same money he can find a bike that can be ridden right now.

The bike does appear clean. If it needs a bottom end it's a parts bike.

What set me off is it will take an easy $1000 in parts to get it going. (probably more)
And for $2800 he can get a pretty nice IH.

I missed the stock headlight is gone so that means the wire harness has been cut.

I appreciate your concern and thoughts on my upcoming purchase and I know I could spend another 500 and get something like a 99 883 that will be more reliable then this bike. But this is everything I want in a bike. Im waiting on my apartment to get finished so I have no bills. I haven't no gf in this state to suck my time and money from me. I make great money, I can pay all my monthly with one check so I can dump a nice chunk of loot into the bike each month. And after a bit I'll have a nice old skool bike I can be proud of.

Rick makes good points, but if it speaks to you then that’s all it takes. Metal in the pump reads rebuild to me as well. Kickers on 70’s bike don’t bite like 60’s bikes with magnetos, so no real worries there - as long as your ignition timing is close to right. Let us know how you get along with it!
