Honestly doesn’t even cross my mind. As for a trike?? (Gasp!). I haven’t led the most healthy, straight & narrow or cautious life thus far, but some of you guys are really bumming me out!

I still ride everyday and train at the gym.

Have a fine young lass (but no Corvette) still I have to admit I can feel changes.
It's not a function of willpower either.

It do change, and I never thought it would happen to me. Reckon I am human

I know more than a few guys in there 70’s that still race the Baja, ski all winter and chase “younger” women in their spare time. When I read of some guys on here talking about their age keeping them down, I just wonder when it went south and what led up to it.
Of course, once again this is my opinion, but a bit of exercise and reasonable diet goes a long way.
Riding our bikes from our youth (I’ve had some of mine for 30+ yrs, and have over 1 million miles on rd but who’s counting) helps keep us young. That, nicely balanced with trying new things, such as the new S, helps give a new outlook. Perhaps it may be a complete crap box, but at least we’ll know. I try to ride anything I can and assess what it has to offer, then decide if it’s something I may want to ride. I have all kinds of bikes new and old, HD and others. Admittedly my Ironheads, my Pan and perhaps my BSA are the only ones with a bit of soul. Other times I do like to get out, cover some miles in “a hurry” and I’ll ride my 1200 Bandit (167,000 miles) or my BMW (102,000). Or I’ll ride one of my dirt bikes and hit the trails (more trails out here than there is pavement). All of them
are different, but they all put a smile on my face. To each his own. I know for me, if that new bike happens to come my way, I’ll jump on it and try it out.I personally don’t ride a bike because it vibrates a certain way, or it comes with a culture, or for the way it looks. I like to ride motorcycles period. I ride them all as fast as they will go, I jump all of them every opportunity (yes, even my 600lb BMW), and I do it with a smile, because I like to. I will continue to ride everything that comes my way new or old.
That’s what keeps me young.
Of course…just my opinion….yours may vary….and that is just fine.

I've made it to 75, my 62nd year of riding. My daughter asks me "when you can't ride two wheels anymore you gonna get a trike?" My answer is no " I'll sell em all and get a Vette. Well, a good deal came along on a 1980 C3 last fall so I jumped on it. And for my 75th birthday present to myself bought a Pan America..fantastic bike! Regrettably sold all the kickstart bikes cuz my knee just won't do it anymore but the 85 IH shares space with the PA. And the Triumph flattracker is the centerpiece of the living room!

Mike,

I am of the same mind. I am not sitting around at all.

I still work also.

Just saying I notice some changes from 58 to 64. But I will fight like hell to keep viable

Boot camp this morning, afternoon pool and spend time with the girl. Then start to mow my acre and a quarter property. Tomorrow chain saw work and i will be riding some

I know one guy who still rides a dual sport bike at age 81, and does it very well. I have ridden with him. But that won't be me. I am quickly developing fairly severe arthritis, and because of the kind of work I did all my life, I have tissue damage (muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage) and my joints are badly worn, especially knee, hip and shoulders. I know one guy who had his own A/C company, and had to give it up in his early 40s because his knee and hip joints started falling apart. Carrying compressors and 100+ pound buckets of tools up and down ladders all day every day will do that to. I should have had the foresight to realize I couldn't do what I was doing for the rest of my life and prepared myself for something else as I got older. But I didn't, and I am now dealing with the consequences.

I had a '77 Vette 32 years ago. Spent a fortune on it, did a lot of work on it, the more I did and spent the more it needed. I was told I should get a Miata. No thanks. Not that I don't like cars, I have been a hot rodder and amateur drag racer all my life. But riding a bike is different. And it is more than just leaning. Most of my miles have been highway miles. I'm into long distance touring, not "sport" riding.

You have to understand that a trike is NOT a motorcycle. But it is NOT a car either. I see it as being somewhere in between. It may not lean, but you are still completely out in the open with your knees in the breeze. And I'm not talking about a huge Goldwing or FLH trike. I'm talking about something made out of a Sportster.


Crusty thanks for posting that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vksdBSVAM6g it has been posted on many other motorcycle forums I belong/belonged to. Very inspirational. Notice they are all riding vintage motorcycles that they had kept stored away for a long time.


As for the garbage H-D is now making, there is nothing new about that. The Japanese and Europeans have been making stuff like that for decades. And I have spent decades trying to get away from it. I now have what I want bike wise, and I'm staying with it. There is an older guy on YouTube called Pacific Mike who has been trying to convince me to get a Shovelhead. And I just may do it. I've learned a lot about them from him.

I am a bit surprised that members of a forum dedicated to a specific type of bike are so ready and willing to accept something so COMPLETELY different, just because it is made by the same company. I only have so much money and so much room. But my immediate reaction is to grab a couple more Sportsters while I can, so that at least I will always have one. Others can do what they want.
