A nice compact package, should be a good one.

As now owner of a Pan America, I can say this will make an awesome Sporty motor!

It's not for me.
It looks like I won't be buying any new Harleys.

I’m not and never will be one of that 95% club. I bought my Sportster for it’s simplicity. Simple air cooled carbureted engine that runs well and is easy to maintain and customize myself. I bought this bike new in 04 and love it more now than ever since doing the Hammer 1275. Liquid cooled fuel injected two wheelers will never be in my garage. I’m happy for you if you like it and buy one though.

People complained and whined how the "Evo" motor wasn't a true Harley engine back when they introduced it. This was the same response on the Milwaukee 8. I think it's a good step into the 21st century for Harleys, from evolution to revolution. In order to compete for the younger market and against the Scouts and Rebels and other "retro style/modern" bikes, I think it is good step forward.
The initial, fairingd, twin-shocked rear prototype that we've seen will be the cheaper version of the S with the 972 Rev motor and rumors around the local dealership suggest that a bare-bones 883 will still be produced as the Sportster, at least for a few more years.
I don't know about you all but I don't want the Sportster name to die, even if they have to put in a 121 hp motor with more electronics than a gamer's PC.

Count me in the club of simple air cooled engine fans. It is not just the new Harley that I'm not interested in. I'm also not interested in the "recent" automobiles with all the data collecting electronics built into them. I'm glad I have a 1968 Mustang.

As long as we can get fuel economically, we will be able to buy the older machines that we restore back into prime condition for our use. Leave the new ones for others.

Sounds like a good engine. Power & torque. Now if the MOCO will just put it in a chassis that has capabilities to match. They got it about half right, but with less than 2" of rear travel & less than 4" up front, it looks like a step forward & 2 steps back. C'mon H-D, give us a complete package, kinda like the Pan America. Every one seems to think they hit a home run with that. Keep your eye on the ball, Harley. Don't drop it again.
