Keeping my oil level at the bottom dipstick mark helps keep my air cleaner clean and dry.

You shouldn't have to lower the oil level on a rigid model.
The only reason that is even a thing is because of the rubbermount plastic oil tank problem.

Your only supposed to tap to the length of the threads.
I haven't measured the thickness of the middle sections but it looks like they are wanting the barrels to just clear that .015" mark between the barrel tops and the cover.
(measured without a gasket between the top and middle)
I wonder if they factored aftermarket gasket thickness into that.
sorry for the delay.

Yes, it seems the exposed top part (Knurled) is 3.5mm to 4.mm. yes something in between the 0.15"

I read the article. great work mate! it made me excited which pushed me to draw some more info.
I hope you find a place for it in the article.

* The reason for having rough measurements (B/W) is because the two brass pipe bushings are not identical!
Which made me think the Accuracy/True is not important in this mod!

That was one of my next questions about the bushings.
Not only them but the cover dim will most likely change on different bikes due to heat stress and finish.
I originally thought that is was a neat mod but I've just not been into it since I'm more into finding the root causes.
But it is a viable alternative worth trying as in any mod.

Then I was going to write out the instructions in my own words since the supplied ones seem to leave things out.
And that's where my interest began on why it's such a to-do with the exact measurements they provide.
The whole reason for the mod is to raise that exit hole.
I took notice for the need for grinding the cover just to install a little bushing in the lower.
So I've been scrutinizing the instructions (wouldn't want them to end up with others having unintentional consequences due to unclear instructions).

I'll definitely add your drawing also.
When you get around to installing, if you would, post back pics and any potential problems you may have had.

So these bushings have no vertical slot in the top?

Can you explain to me exactly why lowering the oil level in the tank keeps oil from getting out the breather?
I have never been able to understand that process.

Exactly!
It is re-plumbing oil by raising the drain surface!

I like the way you wrote it down. Much easier to understand the issue and follows how to it working.
Thank you for your hard work.

I think we finally nailed down why it works on rubbermounts (due to poor tank design).
But rigid tanks are free flowing and don't have that issue.
John, if you really have some idea, I'd like to hear it.
I can't hydraulically connect the two.
