Default Sidestand spring attachment

How is the side stand spring attached to the side stand itself?
In mine there was the remains of a threaded bolt which had sheared off and which I was able to remove surprisingly. As it turned out the "bolt" looked like a self-tapping sheet metal fastener so I guess should burn some incense at the altar of the Great and Powerful PO. This of course means that its not a typical thread that I can match with a machine screw. I am thinking to use a tap and a #10-32 grade 5 bolt since the hook on the spring itself will fit around it and I can red-loctite the bolt into the side stand itself and add a locking nut for good measure. Since it was bodged before I got here, I am just curious what the OEM attachment point was? I assume it was something pressed into the neck of the stand itself with an actual eyelet.

Default 1980 sidestand

There is a welded tab with a hole located up near the pivot. Check Ebay they show a 1980 side stand.

I stretch the spring in a vise and add pennies between the coils then install.

I've always just attached the spring at both ends before connecting the side stand pivot, then you have the leverage of the side stand itself to muscle the pivot into place. Took me about 30 seconds to install it on this bike.
