Default Hard to shift

Hey,

I just broke open the primary case on an XL883 1986 to replace the clutch cable. I am using forward controls. Since doing so, I am having trouble changing up, it has become physically difficult and hard on my foot! The clutch feels perfect, and the bike stands still with clutch engaged, and it lets out nicely with no slip when power applied. The clutch adjuster is adjusted to its first range, and by winding it open it becomes slippy and the clutch becomes less responsive. Any ideas of what I may have changed that creates the issue?

Thanks, Rog.

What type of 'Forward controls' are you using? Factory, aftermarket brand or home-made?
Some of the aftermarket brands seem to have their leverage points "off" slightly making them harder to shift and some are so loose they rattle and over-tightening them is common. Sometimes, just lubing the joints with motor oil will make them shift a lot better.

Fixed her! When I put the gear change back on I had moved it a couple of degrees off from where it was. The shifter position felt the same but it wasn't able to get full leverage up. Moved it on the spline and hey Presto!
