$1300 is definitely outrageous for what they've done to this point.
Yes, funny that. I received notice that they have reduced the charge to $980 AUS in "goodwill" whatever that means.
States on the bill that they spent 6.1 hrs on the bike.... must habe had a lot of coffee breaks. Thats $150 an hour labour, guess that's normal these days.

I'm still waiting on am outcome, could take weeks if I don't pay up and fight it.

Hey four speed, it doesn't state anywhere that they actually inspected the lifters and I don't think they did, but the report says something about carefully listening to lifter noise and no noted abnormal sounds? Whatever that means, especially since I stated so very clearly that it only occurs during normal riffing conditions, BUT NOT at idle...

I had to make the decision to either take legal advice and potentially get myself deeper into a financial hole with lots of stress and inconvenience, or just accept that they led to me to believe there was a definite problem they heard during the test ride -- but then denied it later and did not put it in writing on the report, so I realised it's their word against mine and unfortunately thus time I got well and truly screwed.

Decided it's not worth pursuing legally, so paid the bill and getting my bike back in a couple of days. Just can't believe a dealership can say one thing to my face and then deny it completely and leave it out of the report completely.

I have no great love loss for dealerships. Part of the reason I'll never buy new anything. That and the big hit you take the moment it rolls off the showroom floor. The warranty just isnt worth it to me. But I never pay labor costs either.

Adam76, best put it down to experience. Sadly wise after the event but wise nevertheless.
I always provided a letter with written instructions on the rare occasions I go to a dealer.

Absolute nightmare you have had with this. If, when you get it back and it starts to make the same noise again, take it back, make them acknowledge the noise and make them put it in writing.
Could it by any chance be a fueling issue?

Yes, you're right.
If it does get worse, and I do have to take it back again.... I'll be taking it in with a lawyers letter!!!

Get the Harley corporative representatives guy involve, they have big power.

1350 for removing two covers is outrageous.

Just agreeing to look in is a warranty obligation. The tech said they are noisy and he didn't found the cause, you don't have to pay for his incompetency.

Thanks. I've spoken to consumer protection here, and because they acknowledged the abnormal / excessive noise, But deliberately didn't put it in writing..... legally I have no case.

My only chance to get my money back is to take it to another dealer, get them to acknowledge it in writing, get them to do the actual repair if there is one, all under warranty. Then take the paperwork to the original dealer as proof that it was a warranty job and request to be reimbursed, or it will be taken straight to Harley.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll stop ranting now and just focus on getting back on the road.
Cheers.
