What an awesome thread! It's good to see that not everyone has lost their mind.

Over the past several decades I've noticed bikes and expectations increase in size. To me an old Meriden T100, R75/5 or XS650 are more than big enough to accommodate my 6'3" frame comfortably on cross country trips yet nowadays even the guys 5'10" will complain about how small those bikes feel and might be OK for around town riding but are supposedly too cramped for extended rides. Not only that but the younger generations or new riders seem to also think that something like an 883 is OK for around town but a bigger motor is needed for highway use. I just have to grin and shake my head because I'd really like to see their faces after they find out that I ride 700 mile days cross country on my loaded up DRZ400.

That's only because platform shoes are no longer in style.

I used to think the Sportster looked HUGE next to the British Bikes of the 60s and early 70s (not so much the OIF twins, the triples and the Norton Commando).

I certainly think the current fetish of super-low seats makes Bikes cramped to ride, unless you have forward footrests. Fit a proper, 60s-style bench seat and you’ll see the difference.

I think that's not so much the engine as the gearing. I have an 883/1250 conversion that is in the middle of a gear change. (no time lately), but I did the belt sprocket, and have the sprotor and chain to finish the job.
Stock 883 gearing keeps the engine all wound up at freeway speed of 70, and we run 90 all the time out here. (My buddy sumped that bike after a long period of sustained 90) So it needs the new oil pump too that I have on the shelf.

I think I shrunk about 1/2" unfortunately I've grown in width! A couple of shots of me on my bike 6' 1 &1/2" 16 stone. Was wearing a goretex armoured suit as it was forecast rain & very cold

Great pics!

Given that I’m 5’9” 15 stone (210#), I will explain to my doctor that I’m not overweight, I’m underheight!

I’m jealous of your gear and your dual discs!
