The lithium batteries that have caught fire are of a different chemistry to the ones used in bike batteries. They are known as LiPos lithium polymer and charge to a higher voltage. They have a higher energy density for a given size and are not in solid cases just soft pouches with a final heatshrink covering.

There has been something of an outcry here with cheap rubbish chargers that are causing the batteries to be over-charged - kaboom!

With the correct chargers and a healthy dose of safety to not leave a charging battery unattended they have been used successfully for many years in the radio controlled model hobby.

Where in the early days a battery may have been made with round cells connected in series and parallel there is now LiFePO4 cells with enough oomph that there is only 4. They are I believe known as prismatic cells.

I've bought a power wheel type kid car that I modified as a 4X4. The motors are 550 45 watts, Bought 2 batteries for it. A 20 Ah Eco-Worthy worth 125$ each , take 2 hours to charge with my 10amp charger. The stupid car go for 2 hours non stop, the kids love it.

Just got 4 X 40000rpm 570 motors for 100$, the car can drift now.

The lead cell battery that come with the kid car is now plug on my generator starter; may be good because I use the generator like once every six months.

Coming clean on an early idea.

My bike battery is 12Ah and in actuality I should only discharge it to 80% capacity so I can only use 9.6Ah. In comparison a LiFePO4 battery can be discharged 100%.

Some places quote a 50% depth of discharge but I think that is for the old flooded lead acid batteries. If that were the case though it would only be a 6Ah battery and the 4Ah LiFePO4 battery would look pretty good in comparison.

I made mention of the time it would take the battery to apparently go flat in my bike if I don't charge it but what I don't know is the state of charge after the period of time I was quoted of 3 weeks.

You should never take any lithium cell down much below 2.8 volts per cell, so 11 volts
Once below that, recharge is risky. Take a cel down to zero, or even 1.5-2 volt and it is likely screwed.

Best you can hope for is that the battery has a decent BMS and it cuts output once any cell reaches a critical voltage.
I’ve got about 20 e-bike batteries, 4 or 5 moped style ‘scooter ‘ batteries and 6 lithium motorcycle lead acid replacement’12volt’ batteries, all dead due being taken too low
