Marketing guys are in control and I guess thats good for profits. Sportster guys cry out for suspension and they give us Ape hangers, Oh well I guess you go where the money is. Its so easy to do a new model, Darn shame they wont bring out a better XR 750 clone, or a XLCR Clone on the XR1200X.

Perhaps 72 means 72 miles per tank like the 48 , Don't all new bikes have to come with ABS this year?

Fatboy Slim?? what the hell is a Blackline then? see they have been workin overtime then.

HARLEY is teasing two new models set for release on February 10 and we can reveal they are the 1200cc Sportster Seventy-Two and the 1690cc Softail Slim.

The Sportster takes its cue from the existing Forty-Eight model, but instead of being designed to look like it's come from a 1940s timewarp, you've guessed it, it's straight out of 1972. So instead of blacked-out details, low bars and equal-sized front and rear wheels, the new machine gets a dose of 1970s over-the-top chopper design. Ape hangers, masses of chrome, huge front wheel and white wall tyres are all set to feature on the new machine.
So it is for "1972" - how stupid.

Wonder when they'll do a 80s version with big hair and leopard prints?

So, the Softail Slim comes with motocross bars?....

Maybe the "72" will come with AMF decals on the tank...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

If the tank were smaller than the 3.3 gal, it would likely be a 2.2 gal tank. They'd have to retool to make it though.
No retooling necessary (just a lot of refueling, ha ha). That same tank can currently be found on the Sportster 48.

Thanks,
Jim

I don't know if it is true or related, but Wiki lists 1972 as the year the 1000cc overhead valve replaced the 900cc engine (Sportster).
