Default Range With EFI 3.3 Gal Tank

Having asked this question about the 2.1 gal tank, I figure some folks may be interested to see how far you can go on the 3.3 gal tank before you have to fill up?

I go to 160 to 170 kilometers before refilling. The 91 octane sell for about 1.45 $ a liter. I spend 10$ on a refill = 6.7 liters. I average about 55 to 58 miles per US gallon. Not bad for a Lectron 1250 equip bike. The TC88A run with a nice Jester X map from Rico. Yes, the plug has a nice tan color so, no lean here, just well atomized fuel delivery. I've check the millage with google map itinerary and I run accurate millage.

My light comes on around 107 or so. I can go around 130 or so before I would say I "have" to fill up. Recently, I tend to fill it on average at 125, but have had it in the 130's plenty of times. And a couple times in the 140's, but I start to get nervous.

I gave my best answer, but to be honest I always fill up when my tripometer gets to 90 or so, then I start looking for a place to fill up. My light comes one no matter how much gas is in the tank so I just ignore it. When I do fill up I am only pumping in about 1.7 to 2.0 gallons of gas so I know I can go much farther ... but the idea of running out of gas doesn't appeal to me.

My light comes on anywhere between 65 & 85 miles from full, depending on the type of ride I have been on,I do like to use the twist grip fairly hard when conditions are right,I think I have just over 1 1/2 gallons before my light comes on.

I have never owned any bike with such a small fuel tank. When the low fuel light comes on, I look for a filling station ASAP. I know lots of folks have had issues with their lights, but mine has always lit up at about 2 gallons (US) down.

Right now, I'm getting a solid 48 to 50 miles per gallon.

I'm sure there's a fix for my light issue, just too lazy to do anything about it. Besides, this is the first bike I ever owned that had any kind of fuel indicator on it ... all my other bikes had petcocks with a reserve.

Come to think of it, they ought to develop an electronic "reserve" element into these EFI bikes. Something that mimics going into reserve when the fuel is low.

There seems to be quite a few threads on this. I started one myself. I usually hit reserve around 65-75 miles. Takes around 2.2 US gallons. Which puts me at about 35-37mpg which sucks. But my driving is around town and in traffic. Mileage comes up to around 40-42 when out on the highway. I just did a 1250 conversion on mine and hoped the fuel economy would improve quite a bit, and it did some but not much. Fuel mileage will change depending on driving habits and driving conditions. I believe mine can be improved. My plugs have the correct color to them so I know its not running excessively rich. I may play with my stock carb some more but I plan on installing a mikuni in the near future.

Seem to be concerned with the EFI bikes but my '02 1200 Sporty (carb equipped) has the same size tank.

Just a routine to fill at 100 miles. I know it'll need reserve around 120 miles so I use my trip odometer to let me know.

Why wait? I'll eventually need gas.
