Default Security system

My 2011 48 left me stranded today. It was running fine. Stopped for a few minutes and it wouldn't start back up. I press the start button and nothing happens.

When I turn the ignition on, the red key light comes on 6 seconds later and stays on. When I turn off the ignition, the light goes out. No blinking.

I changed the battery in the key fob.

It does this if the fob is nearby or not.

If I turn on the ignition twice and press the left turn signal 3 times and the right one once, the light still comes on in 6 seconds and stays on.

Same thing if I turn the ignition on and hold both turn signal buttons down

I had a security module with an alarm. I tried my original one in it's place. No change.

What the heck is going on?

Thanks

Did you try disconnecting the bike battery from the bike and wait about 10min. or so, (helps to completely power down all modules), reconnect the battery, turn key on, wait about 15 seconds and hit start. If the red key came on when you re-attached the battery, you may have to wait 30 minutes.

I unhooked it for over an hour. No difference. I am going to call my dealer in the morning and see what they say. I'll report that here.

They want $100 to look at it and figure out what is wrong with it. Any actual repairs would be on top of that.

Some more clues. I had the ignition off when I unplugged the battery. As I started to disconnect it, the alarm went off. Once I pulled it off, it stopped, of course.

I tested the codes again - get a U1300 code for P and SP. No Response for the rest (S,t and b.It does not have a tachometer). I didn't have the RUN switch on when I checked them last night.

It's possible your bike doesn't recognize the key fob. Have the fob checked to see if it's working. If not, replace it..either way the fob will have to be reprogrammed to the bike. A manual for your year of bike will have a table for key fob assignment, listed under the security section in the index.

This is the part that tells me the security system doesn't SEE (detect) a key fob. Usually any car dealership or your local HD shop will have a fob tester and will test it for free. If you can't get it to re-assign and keep coming up with the same code (U1300) you'll need a breakout box to continue. There is a video out on 'Fix My Hog'-(YouTube) on how to use a breakout box and Explains what to test for. I hope this helps you.

Thanks.

The thing about the key fob is even if it isn't working, I should be able to override the security by inputting the pin with the turn signal switches. The only thing I can think of there is if the fob is bad AND it lost the pin, then I can't input the pin without a working fob. Just an idea.

I'll probably just bite the bullet and take it to the dealer. I am going to call a local independent shop tomorrow. They are closed on Mondays.

My life savings is $1000, so I could easily lose half of it if I take it to the dealer. I'm retired and make just enough to get by, so this is going to hurt...

I should probably just sell it and spend some of the money to fix up my Ironhead. I don't ride much these days anyway.

That's happened to me with my car. Skin didn't read the chip in the key. Gives you 3 shots like an ATM then shuts everything down. I disconnected the battery. It worked but not sure if that's what really fixed it
