Retro....
the open flap will allow the exhaust flow to go straight, so you will get louder sound, but don't open it too much or you will need to remap the EFI, I opened mine about 1,5 or 2 cm
I cut the end of the inner baffle for looks, because reminded me of chinese 125cc knock off exhaust systems, but also gives more rumble I don't know why
check my videos in past page to hear the sound

What about the baffle cap that can be knocked out?? Will this need a MAP upgrade? What does it do for power?? How is it done? What does it sound like compared to Screamin Eagle slip ons??? My bike is a 2008 1200R

You shouldn't set your idle below 700RPM or you risk damage to your engine from inadequate oil supply.

no map required IF you leave the A/C alone, I also have the 1200r found that it ran way to lean with a SE a/c and pipes, I skipped the remap and just went to a PCIII, u should notice a lil in the pants just doing the pip changes. You will notice a WHOLE lot of diff if u change out the pipes and a/c. you can find fulerpacks and PCIIIs for about 200 on e-bay, the dealer will charge you about 180 for the remap.

what I meant was getting -500 rpm from the current, i.e going to about 900 rpm, I guess is doing like 1400 rpm at idle now...

I put Vance & Hines slip ons on my '08 and they sound great. They sound better than my old Road King that had Rheinhart pipes.

Which model of Vance & Hines did you install ? I've got a 2008 XL 1200 C also and looking for better mufflers to get the famous potato, but I don't want something too noisy !

Thanks

I know this has been hashed before but I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in each baffle, the sound is a lot better, seems to be smoother, the little miss thing at idle seems to be gone. There was some popping on decel at first but went away after a ten mile ride,I guess ecm must have done some learn'in.

As far as I know, there is no way to lower the idle on an EFI bike. The ECM controls it. Maybe there is an aftermarket controller or something that can change it.
