Yeah, I am by no means saying I "invented" this and there may be another write-up somewhere (took less time to do the mod then run the search on the forum)...but it only took a couple minutes to do and I took some pics....so might as well do a quick write-up.
Glad it helps!

I just used a black garbage tie to secure mine. You can see in the bottom left of the picture. So far it has last for 7,100 miles and still in good shape.

ever wander why harley has so many problems ? i really hate buying a new bike and having to fix it, i dont mind tearing it apart to modify it, but when the factory makes junk it makes me second guess my purchase. battery door, dead batteries, belt guard installed wrong at factory, wiring easily torn out by tire (nightster) kickstand issues, crappsy suspension. but after all thats fixed i love it, just hate fixing a 10k bike.

Recon, I have seen a lot of people use that approach. I thought about it....but wanted to keep the clip there since it matches the rear. I am kinda in the middle of doing what you did and leaving it stock. I also wanted to keep away from having to replace the tie strap every time I open the battery cover (which occurs often with the battery tender).

I just got back from a good ride over some good ol' construction roadways....held up great. In fact I stopped at a bike/car show and as soon as I turned the bike off I had a guy come up asking questions about my N (he has an 08' N). He asked me if I had any problems with the battery cover opening up...I just started laughing and showed him what I did.

I ride an 08 Roadster, and I've had my battery cover pop off this spring when I hit a large pot hole. I replaced the front clip and when re-installing the cover noticed a more pronounced "snap" into place than I had with the cover and the original clip. No troubles since....

I just used the pre-exsisting hole in the cover and the hole in the frame. I run my ziptie through those and just replace as needed...it's not like I take the cover off all the time. I've prolly had it off all of 3 times over the life of the bike.
