Default ECM Relocation Options Thread

I think it is just because riding season has ended for some of us northern folks...but seems like we are getting more and more questions about relocating the dreaded ECM on 07'-09' models. So I figured I would start a thread and try to combine everything that I have seen out there into one nice spot so people can view everything on the table and most importantly so I don't have to look all over God's creation trying to find where I saw something! If someone knows of other options or threads I missed PLEASE add on or make comments! Thanks!

So here we go:

This is from "eNightster":

http://xlforum.net/forums/s...d.php?t=418093

This is from "Micheletti" (an addition to what eNightster did):

Didn't find any pics...maybe Micheletti can get some for us.

This is from me, "Cosmo Kramer":

This is from "Pharcas":

FYI, this set-up also relocated the PCIII under the battery cover

This is from "Krypto":

I know there is more out there....but I need to get some sleep! I'll add more as soon as I can track them down. If possible, please try and provide a picture and link to the thread or a write-up so we can visually see and know what you did. Thanks!

this is awesome cosmo, thanks for taking the time to put it all in one place! i'm gonna have my work cut out for me this winter and this should ease the pain a bit by not making me have to look all over this site for ideas.

Here is an option that is on ebay that hides the ECM under the spring seat...I know others have done something similiar (they molded a fiberglass cover to cover the ecm and frame opening under the seat if anyone remembers and can post the link to the thread) and I'll try to find those pics/threads too.

Anywho...this may give some guys another option / idea:

Here is a link to the seller's store (don't want to link an auction cause I think after a while the link will be dead after the auction has ended):

Here is a thread from Nightkid3 showing this kit on his bike:

just bought one of these cosmo. however, i lifted my seat and i also have the main wiring harness under there and the security module in the tray along w/ my pcII. im think'n i'll put my pcIII (which btw is tethered off of my ecm with enough slack) in the battery tray. the lil security modeule i can hide either under the seat pan or behind the oil bag. the mian wiring harness however, i'm not too sure about. i'm hoping that the seat pan has enough room between the pan and the frame to keep it under there or i'm gonna have to find somehwre to put it.

BMX, check out the last relocation on the first post. I am trying to add as much as I can to that first post so people don't have to search all the pages of this thread. Anywho....Pharcas relocated his PCIII under the battery cover also.

From the pics of that spring seat from ebay....it looks like it sits slightly above if not flush with the top of the frame rails. If you look at the bottom of the stock seat....there is no cut out so I think you'll have just as much room if not more with that spring seat set-up under that cover. Note that I said "think"...don't know for sure but just from looking at it thats what I can see.

the cover on that kit only fits the ecm under the seat and that's it. i've already confirmed that. i hope i'm able to just squash the main harness under the seat kit pan kind of like the stock seat does and bolt it on. pull the battery, run the pcII in there, replace battery, done. hopefully!

Thanks alot Cosmo! This really helps as I'm getting ready to have this relocation done as well. Excuse my ignorance, but how necessary was it to use that bracket you created from the piece you cut off the battery bracket? I mean, I am understanding correctly that it just holds the ECM and battery in place like others' zip tie solution does, just a more solid solution? Or was it necessary to really keep things immobile in there? I am wondering because, how you drilled it into the frame, it may be visible if using a spring seat which I am debating on doing now...
