So besides these lithium batteries people are changing to, what other batteries are being used besides the stock HD one? Specifically smaller sized batteries that I will not need a special charger for and will not set me back $180 or more.

I used a Yuasa YTZ14S, Dont know how much in the States, but in the UK it was £60.

I got my Li battery on amazon for $104.....

I know this thread is seven years old, but there is new technology with the advent of
lithium ion type batteries made for snow mobiles, ATVs, & motor cycles.
Much smaller and much less weight than lead acid type battteries used in 2007-2009.
For example the lithium ion battery by Deltran, brand name, Battery Tender, p\n BLT14A240C
has dimensions, length=5.27", height=3.62", width=2.55" compared to the stock H-D,
Length=5-7/8",height=5-3/4", width=3-7/16".
Replacing the lead acid or even a new generation AGM type battery of equal size to the older lead acid type battery with lithium ion battery increases the available volume in the battery tray area for the ECM.
Thus, leaving the selection wide open for stationary cushion type seats without the unsightly tail seat section.
If the ECM is strapped to the outboard side of the battery , the lithium ion battery allows an additional 3/4" clearance to the battery cover.
The thickness of the ECM is 1-1/8", width=4", length=6-1/2" including connector.
With these dimensions, could find the ECM location combination that fits into the tray volume.
Surely, there are many combinations that fit and not only one unique solution.

Yep! FWIW I'm using an EarthX ETX-36C so I can move the ECM
(and wiring) from in-front-of the frame down-bar to inside the
battery tray (while its down for the 1250 conversion)

So with an '06 . . . and not changing the battery, what is the easiest relocation for the sole purpose of gaining a tiny bit more space for a different seat?

On an ‘06, the ICM is under the front of the seat; why would you want to move it at all?

The stock seat is good but the optional Sundowner is more comfy.
Sundowner has no provision for the ICM
I think it is closer to the center of the seat, to me it is bigger than the Princess and the Pea, right under the old hem-a-roids.

Depends which Sundowner you're looking at. # 51507-04 and 51509-04 are made for the '04 - '06 bikes, and certainly have provision for the ICM.

Folkie . I answered that ?? I said for some seat clearance. My seat I want to use hits the ICM slightly. If it was 1/2" lower, I'd have no issue.
