The module sees a signal voltage that is essentially source voltage or higher and sets the dtc for shorted high. Or short to voltage. And I have posted about systems that I didn’t research thoroughly and gave wrong advice, so I’ve been wrong before.

Here's the Sporststerpedia section on the stock Low Fuel Sensor:

And here's the SP section on the upgraded speedo and the 61200008A upgraded Fuel Level Sensor:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...9#speedometers

I don't believe the 61200008A is designed to work with the Stock speedo...

The stock speedo has only the Low Fuel Light which is activated in conjunction with the simple Low Fuel Sensor (switch) in the tank and utilizes the external Resistor Pack...

The upgraded speedo/tach has a multi-level Fuel Gauge that is fed a multi-level signal from the 61200008A Fuel Level Sensor which does not utilize the external Resistor Pack but rather replaces that pack with a simple jumper plug to ground the in-tank sensor...

Gottcha. Sensor output line shorted to power supply voltage, as opposed to shorted to ground. Would that code also indicate an open circuit on the output line?

That would fall under the short to ground/open circuit code for GM.

IKL, those are some good links there - thanks! Somewhere in my reading I found one guy who said he had to use a jumper wire on the bare 200B, so inspecting the pin housing and jumper wire that HD put in the fuel level sensor kit, I found that the pins on the jumper wire were not even long enough to protrude at all through the housing and make connection with the other side (200B relay assy). Well, I bet that's a problem! I connected the jumper directly on 200B and cleared the B1211 code. Started it up and the code didn't return and the fuel light isn't blinking anymore. It's still on but it may be due to low fuel actually, so when the weather permits, I'll take another test ride to the station and see what happens. No sign of mileage range but if this gives me back a low fuel light, I'll be happy until I can find a deal on the upgrade speedo. I'm not spending $315 on a speedo as long as I have one that works! Will report what happens - thanks again!

Ok, update: I got the pins to protrude as needed but had to use a needle nose after disassembling the pin housing - something that was not mentioned in the instructions. Still no range function so I'm tending to agree that the upgraded digital tach will be needed to get that, even though some guy had written otherwise. Must be a terrorist plot to disrupt our bike functions!
