Congrats on the new-to-you bike... Always cool to make them your own..
Thanks that was really helpful. I was able to get the tank on and get the lines all rerouted. Seems to be working. Ill get some photos up in a second.

I like stock look as they are getting older & HD not making Sportsters soon. so think wise keep it looking' stock. just got mine to handle better and go quicker. but look stock.

Glad you guys like the seat and tank. And definitely need to put some miles on it now!

So first up for getting the tank on was to fab up a lift bracket.

I debated for a while about what to do with the tabs. The '81 tabs are quite a bit narrower and rest above the rear frame bolt location. I was just going to make another riser but then said screw it and decided to heat up the tabs a little and bend them out and back. Lost a little paint with the bend which I expected. Will put some primer and new paint on at some point if it starts to rust a little. Anyway I used this clunky method to bend them out and then back in slightly.

I threw the tank on and bolted it with some washers to get the tabs perfect

Primed, painted and mounted the tabs on first

Then bolted them on

Also got this pangea speed choke mount and threw it on. You can see the sae30 line there which is the VOES back into the carb. Removed the T like you guys said.

And how shes sitting now. Really liking this smaller tank.

Also realized my riser bolt ground wire has rusted off. I dont know a ton about these ground wires or whether this one should absolutely be reattached?

Looking good, hope the taped ground went well. Let the bonding continue.
