Default XR1200 rear visibility issue

If you're like me and unhappy with the lack of visibility the factory-supplied mirrors offer, Harley has extended mirrors that move look just like the originals but extend about another inch or so outwards. The part numbers are 91909-03A and 91910-03A. They cost about $35 each.

One word of caution, though - the parts counter where i got mine said they were being phased out of Harley's parts catalog, so you may have to do some searching to find them. I found them on the online catalog a few weeks ago and don;t know if they're still listed.

If they are anything like putting the extended mirrors on the other Sportsters then they do little and you still can't see behind you. You do get a good view of your arms though

Only bar-end mirrors seem to work for me on a Sportster.

I fitted this bicycle bar end mirror ($15.00 from local bike shop) just to see if bar ends would work for me. They are great, they don'y vibrate and you can mount short, long, or inverted. This is a quality mirror, and the price is great. The mirror is reversable so it only sticks out a little, not like the add shows.

I have rarely had a set of mirrors work for me on bikes. I think the last pair was on my old Nomad. My 68 mirrors work pretty good on buckhorns, but I just get used to turning my head.

Thumbs up Great bar end mirrors

http://www.motostrano.com/nabarendmi.html

These are the best bar ends for the money, IMO. They would fit the look of the XR too. I have a set on my ZRX and will be getting a set for the sporty when I get new bars.

Here is a review of them.

+1 for the Napoleon Bar end mirrors. I have a set on the Ducati GT 1000. They look and perform well. An added feature is that they can be "folded in" when not in use.

I, for one, Ron P, want to thank you for this info...

Right after you first posted the part #'s for these in the other thread I took a look for them online. Found a few places that listed them, but none where I was certain they had them in stock. I have been planning to take a short trip up the 100 miles to the dealer where I bought the bike soon, so I decided I would just wait until then to try and get a set.

But then late today I was driving right by the H-D dealer here in town, and decided I would swing in and see if, but chance, they had 'em in stock. I needed to pick up some Formula+ tranny/primary lube anyway, so it was not a special trip.

Now understand, I don't how anybody buys a bike from this local dealer, as the sales staff is arrogant as hell and they marked the bikes up WAY over list - then gaff you by adding freight, set-up, doc, etc. charges and fees out the wazoo to add insult to injury. I have tried to buy bikes from the many times before and have never been able to make it happen. But all that said, the store is a show palace, with a great parts and accessory department, and their service department has a great reputation, too.

Anyway, I strolled in, picked out two bottles of the primary/trans lube, and laid the part #'s on the parts guy. Low and behold he had the mirrors IN STOCK! Even surprised him...

No great deal on 'em price-wise... Just the same MSRP, $34.95, that H-D shows on their website, but that didn't bother me as that is actually quite inexpensive compared to Ducati parts!!!

Got home this evening and installed the new mirrors and I think they will be PERFECT! I like the fact they really aren't any higher than the stockers, just wider... As such, once mounted they look stock. I didn't get a chance to take a ride and check 'em out on the street as it was 46 degrees and misting rain...

But from doing an A-B comparison with the stockers in the garage I can already tell the new mirrors will be a terrific improvement. Just the right amount from what I can figure... And as I said, best of all, they look stock.

Can't wait to try 'em out on the road.

Thanks for posting and making me aware of these, Ron. That's what makes these kinds of forums so valuable and fun.

Dallara

Anything to help out another rider.

I'm aware of how good bar end mirrors are since I used to own a Ducati Sport 1000, but these mirrors keep the stock Harley look and don't need any sort of modification to fit if that's important.
