all maddog did was to rant about a problem in the heat of a moment after all his leg was hurt as well as his pride and his new sporty later he admitted he messed up. his cooler head enterviened there is not one of us who in the heat of a moment hasnt done something similar. so lets try to think like civilized people and move on stop bashing and enjoy this forum for what it is.a place to get things off your chest or to get help fixing problems with the best bike in the world. and leave the drama to the teenage girls of the world

I'll take the first question as a rhetorical question. The second one is easy....Answer:'YES!"

I like my fork lock., Very hard to ride at all. and really noticeable.
but then again, I like my solid mount.

I always use the fork lock, and have never forgotten to unlock it. I haven't been riding all that long myself, but I know quite a few folks who have. None of them go around saying what good riders they are. They all seem to think that however long they've been riding, there's always something more to learn. I guess they're right.

Coupla things here....

As "the mod" referenced earlier, I'd like to remind you guys that I (we) are one of you....we don't see everything, and I almost NEVER come into this area, as I don't own an XR...

If, in the future, you see a thread degenerating, PLEASE use this icon , found at the upper right of every post, to report it, and the post WILL get looked at....

I'm kind of disappointed that this got a little ugly....in hindsight, having looked at this whole thread (there's another 10 minutes I'm never getting back ), its easy to see that the fork lock WAS defective in some way, and it could have happened to any of us (who own 04 and up Sportys)

I'm sure everyone realizes now there is shared liability here....

The positive fork lock of the pre-rubbermount bikes makes this kind of thing next to impossible....I've forgotten to unlock my forks once or twice, but I couldn't imagine starting it before I realized it was locked.....but there's no opportunity for slop with the old style lock...

Having worked at a dealership for a few years, I can attest to the notion that many believe those new locks suck and are easily broken, and I've seen a few needing to be replaced, and it ain't cheap...FWIW, if I ever had one of these, I'd never use it......if only for the cost of replacement factor...

Sorry I didn't see the shitstorm, but I'm glad things seemed to have lightened up....

Lesson in it for us all, I suspect....

Carry on....

Default Re: Heeeeyyy "Catolina".....Lighten up. Consider the originating post.

This entire rant may be accurately summed up by the title of one of William Shakespears' plays: Much Adieu About Nothing.
.
The long and short of it: two questions asked. The first of an apparently rhetorical nature, the second virtulally begging for a wise-ass, ascerbic reply. Frankly, I think most everyone on this column would, as a matter of choice, not make the admission initially posted by Mad Dog.

I can't believe this thread is 24 pages long... over someone who forgot to unlock their fork lock. If your bike is in proper working order the bars should not be able to turn hardly at all and if they do turn enough for you to not realize that your forks are still locked then perhaps you should question it. I read a lot of good replies here, some of them made me laugh my ass off.
