I replaced mine at about 9k when I burned the clutch out; spring plate still appeared to be good.

I just replaced mine at 20,250 miles with Energy1 due to spring plate failure. I have a 2005 XL1200C.

29,000 miles. Don't know if my bike could even do a wheelie or a burnout. I have won a few slow-ride races, though.
IMHO, the spring plate in the rubber mounts is suffering the perils of some of the vibrations that are no longer being transmitted to the rider, mirrors, seats, etc. Don't they call the mounts "isolators?" They don't eliminate the vibrations...they just keep them from going certain places. They gotta go somewhere - why not the spring plate?

I've wondered the same thing, plus the possible change of manufacturer and/or location of manufacture?
It does make sense, the stress and shock of shifting got transmitted somewhat to the frame with solid mounts. Now it just resonates back and forth within the engine. The old handlebar "buzz" could now take place in the spring plate.

08 36,000 miles...burnouts,holeshots,wheelies, 2-up,mountains...it's seen it all....Just changed out the clutch before doing the 1250 and it wasn't far off from exploding...Rivets extremely loose no spring left in it....Went with the energy1 and its much better than stock..

no problems with my solid mount yet, springs are a bit soft and the main spring isn't really doing that well. With the extra power it is now making since getting hammered I will install an already purchased energy one extra plate kit with a stiffer spring. This will eliminate it altogether, as I have had miserable luck with those springs in my DYNAs and FXRs. But those bikes were used for drag racing and it was already set up to move on to a Rivera pro clutch .

09 883 Just replaced mine at 25k with an Energy One. Was working fine prior to the 1250 conversion.
I was expecting the brass rivets to be in pieces...but they were still nice an snug. Plenty of meet left on the plates.
I do wheelies, burn-outs, slow races, and use gearing for braking as much as I do the brakes. For what I put it through I expected it to be in bad shape. It wasn't. But the 883 spring could not hold the NRHS 1250 conversion.

I don't suspect the original owner abused the bike in any way, but since he rode to work in Indianapolis I'd say there was plenty of stop-and-go. I'm absolutely tickled with my new clutch.
