Default The X

Just wondering if there are any opinions on the X coming to the states as it is being carried as a seperate model.
Second does it handle better than the standard model

I reckon It'll do about as well as the XR1200........
Is it just a "Dark Custom" version or is there extra doo dads as well?
Oops.I see it is a bit longer (30mm) and has different gearing too.

It's got the 'kit' Showa suspension(big piston, fully-adjustable forks, and fully adjustable shocks), as well as floating(actually 'semi') rotors.. This suspension is a lot better than what comes stock on the 'regular' XR, but if you're just gonna ride the thing on the street, including canyons, the stock stuff works pretty well. You prolly wouldn't need it.
IMO, they totally dropped the ball by not putting a 17" front on the "X". They shoulda done it on the regular XR as well, but with the "X" billed as the 'track' version of the XR, there's no excuse for it not having the 17.. All the XR racebikes have 17's on 'em.. you can't even get decent race rubber in 18".
Beyond that it's just cosmetic..
I bought the 'kit' suspension, lighter wheels(including a 17" front wheel), a Termi exhaust, PC, and some shock risers.. I've ordered lighter bodywork, and front fender as well, and I'm thinking mine will be under 500lbs when I'm done. I'm gonna race it in WSMC's BoTT Middleweight, so the suspension, wheels, and bodywork are worth it for me.
I would think that if they want more than a couple grand more for it, getting the 'regular' XR, and doing the mods yourself would be more cost-effective. That is unless you really gotta have all the flat black.
You gotta remember that if they do end up selling the "X" here, it'll be a very limited run.. You know dealers are gonna try to get whatever they can out of it, so if the bike itself costs another $3k, you know damn well average Harley dealer could easily mark it up another $5k without batting an eye.
Harley's been selling the "X" suspension for $1500(list), and some dealers have been selling it for around $1200. Even at $1500 it's a smoking deal. If you need to replace the same set of forks on your '09 ZX6(like the "X", the ZX6 uses Showa B.P. forks), you're gonna be paying $1800, and that' just for the forks. The "Kit" suspension includes the shocks as well.
Along with the rotors, you could have all the "X"s go-fast stuff for $1500 or so.
If you're not in love with "X"'s cosmetics, and therefore don't 'gotta have it', you can take all the money you save, buy the 'kit' suspension, and also Braking wheels. The wheels alone save north of 40 pounds of unsprung weight, which is the best place to lose weight. You can obviously buy anything from the X as well, so you could transform your silver motor into a matte black one if you so desire.

Kev,

Traditionally when Harley has multiple models of the same chassis, the up-model is not as expensive as the base model+accessories.

I.E. IF they bring the XR1200X to the US (and I fully expect them to) I would guess it probably will not be more than $1k or so more than the base XR. Unless I'm missing some other changes.

It's been posted on a couple of the XR threads.

Or you can check out the Harley UK website.

I don't think I can link pics from the Harley website or I would.

This might work, but it might be huge (apologies ahead of time)

My XR is my first foray into Harley world, and I hope you're right simply from a consumer prospective.. I just can't fathom HD dealer doing the right thing, and letting customer's walk out without feeling thoroughly violated.
From what I've seen sales-wise around here, I don't even think it's got better than a 50/50 chance making it's way here. If DMG adopts an all-XR series, and if it's a hit, I say no problemo. Big 'if's'...
A lot of it will have to do with how many they'd bring here too..If each dealer gets as many as they want(can't imagine any of 'em wanting more than 10 at the most), they prolly would end up discounting them. If they only get one or two however, IMO you'd have to wait to see how well they sell, before looking for a decent price.

On the UK HD site it is only a couple of hundred quid (English for Pounds) more than the XR1200
