Buell Ulysses brother lost 4-5 while on the highway
The bro is in route from Ohio to PA on a Buell he picked up this morning Flew in and ride back deal.
He was on the interstate and he seemed to loose 5th and 4th gear.. He pulled over and called me,, I had him adjust the clutch and cable ( not sure if this is the cure, but he was able to continue again and regained 4th and 5th... He pulled into a truck stop and is waiting for me to see if the group has any ideas if its safe to continue. I also told him to check the primary oil level. THanks

Unfortunately about the only other thing he can do is check his shifter linkage to make sure it is not loose. If it is none of those issues he is going to need to remove the primary cover and see if anything is obviously broken.

Yea, I walked him thru how to look under the derby cover and adjust the clutch there and the cable. I also have him looking in the primary to look around for any obvious issues.

If he has to get home and if he can get it into 4th I would recommend he just shifts into 4th and keeps it there. He will need to reduce his highway speed to around 65 mph or less and it will suck taking off from a dead start but it can be done. I rode a 1996 Buell S2 for over 90 miles in 3rd this way once when my detent pins worked there way out and jammed it in 3rd.

Well the Bro made it home around midnight. He only had 1,2, 3rd. but managed to make some good time. His trip was 550 miles, and 400 of it with only 3 gears. He's contacting the local shop today for repair.

UPDATE: Buell in the shop.. the original seller felt so bad , he sent a check for $800 to cover the repair and just to feel better. I'm glad he was willing to go that extra mile.
The brother said that the parts are on order, ended up loosing one of the gears (I'm surprised at only 9,000 miles). I asked which one (since he didn't have a 4th or 5th gear.) He didn't know.
He should be ready to ride again next week.. Just in time for some good fall rides.
