01 X1 lightening spark plug recommendations
Was going to order some plugs to go with the new ignition but realized I have no idea what plug to order. The Manuel calls for HD 10r12 but that would be an online thing and I like to use local stores when I can. Local part store recommend NGKDCPR8E but according to Google it should be NGKDCPR9EIX. what do you guys run in your X1?

I use NGK DCPR7EIX in my 1994 883>1200 engine - I have Lightning heads on it...
I tried the DCPR8E regular plugs - the engine did not run as smooth...
Here's the NGK info on plug differences:

Well I got the ignition and filled down the two sides. It fit just like the OEM ignition, put the new plugs in, turned the key and get all the lights including nuetral and the check engine light plus I can hear the fuel pump but it just cranks. No start, only with starting fluid... Ran out of time so looks like I'm closer but not there yet. Hopefully I can find some time next week to tinker with it. But the ignition works great.

So - With the starting fluid, it did fire over and try to start? If so, that confirms spark - Did you take a compression check? I would...
That would leave the fuel supply -
ETA: Duh - EFI - Was the choke (enrichener, actually) on? Did you check that you had fuel flow to the carb?

Correct it ran for a couple seconds with ether so yes it's for spark. Definitely a fuel issue. I put a Stethoscope to both injectors and couldn't hear them clicking.

Maybe a loose connection to the injectors somewhere...
Front Injector Trigger = White/Yellow Wire
Rear Injector Trigger == Green/Gray
You can use the CEL to retrieve Diag Codes:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t..._cel_diag_mode
But the Buell Codes are a little different:
CODE NO. - FAULT CONDITION ----------- RELEVANT TOPIC IN MANUAL
11 ------- Throttle position sensor -- 4.17 TROUBLE CODE 11
13 ------- Oxygen sensor ------------- 4.18 TROUBLE CODE 13
14 ------- Engine temperature sensor - 4.19 TROUBLE CODE 14
15 ------- Intake air temp sensor ---- 4.20 TROUBLE CODE 15
16 ------- Battery voltage ----------- 4.21 TROUBLE CODE 16
23 ------- Front fuel injector ------- 4.22 TROUBLE CODES 23 AND 32
24 ------- Front ignition coil ------- 4.23 TROUBLE CODES 24 AND 25
25 ------- Rear ignition coil -------- 4.23 TROUBLE CODES 24 AND 25
32 ------- Rear fuel injector -------- 4.22 TROUBLE CODES 23 AND 32
33 ------- Fuel pump ----------------- 4.24 TROUBLE CODE 33
35 ------- Tachometer ---------------- 4.25 TROUBLE CODE 35
44 ------- Bank angle sensor --------- 4.26 TROUBLE CODE 44
52, 53, 54, 55 --- ECM failure ------- 4.27 TROUBLE CODES 52, 53, 54 AND 55
