transmission Trap door?
I understand that Harley sportsters previous to 04 had a "trap door" in the case that allowed transmission removal with the engine together. I did a little research and looks like Buell's don't have that trap door feature.
What does the trap door look like (anyone have a picture?) and can it be machined into my cases while I have them apart?
I am a Buell newb and curious. My XB9R needs some tranny work and if the trap door could be added, that would be cool.

it would be extremely expensive as it would take cutting, welding and machining. I would guess you would be looking at at least $1,500 to have it done.

I guess I should start by asking what is the "trap door"?
Does it allow you to pull the trans with the engine cases together?

Tube-frame Buells had the trapdoor, same as the frame-mount Sporties. Fuel-in-frame Buells and rubber-mount Sporties lost the trapdoor.

Does anyone have a picture of what it looks like, the trap door? I have looked at sporty cases online searching using trap door image, but I am not getting it? It looks like the trans on my xb9r should come out without a case split, what is in the way or holds it in so that isn't possible?

I just went to Google and typed "Sportster trapdoor" and found plenty
off images of it. Try trapdoor run together

Is the trapdoor the trans cover plate? Are the older ones just bigger and that's what allows the trans to come out?
