Default installing accelerator pump check valve and nozzle

I recently picked up a CV carb (27490-96A) for my 97 xl1200s. I'm disassembling it for a good long soak in the bath. I wanted to dig deep and check the shape of the accelerator pump check valve, so I pulled the nozzle out and the valve dropped right out. Valve and nozzle look in good shape.

Is there a way to properly install the valve? When I reassembled it, you can hear the check valve move up and down when gently flipping the float bowl over. Is this amount of movement normal? Or Should it be in a fixed-pressed position?

Should the valve be sitting on the half round ledge of the accelerator nozzle or arranged butt end to butt end?

Here's the Sportstpedia section regarding the CV40 Carb accelerator pump:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...uel_float_bowl

The check valve & nozzle are not a service item in the FSM, so little information is provided.

You might measure the nozzle cavity & determine whether there is sufficient room below the bottom of the nozzle (when in place) for the check valve to move freely up and down. If so, then matching cut-to-cut may be irrelevant. However, if there is little clearance for the check valve to operate beneath the level of the nozzle, then matching cut-to-cut may be essential.

Please post your measurements and experience so we can all learn from that.
