I'd take Tomcatt's advice. Hook it all back up with the new battery, and check voltage when you have it running. I know it's probably going to be a PITA to check voltage with your battery installed, but maybe temporarily add some leads off the terminals. I don't think you have to be connected directly with the meter at the terminals, just a reading of what voltage is in the system. Since it's coming from the other side of the CB and the VR, that's what you're interested in knowing.

Yep. Makes the case for having a charger pigtail on your battery. Makes it easy to check battery voltage, system voltage, etc.

That's why I don't run the side covers on either side of the bike. I can just clip the charger on any time, and also I can check battery any time, plus there is no grunge build up under my oil bag cover because it's not there.

Plus those covers look too Japanese for my liking.
