I didn't realize THAT is what the bottom of the 1st picture looked like.

So - You replaced the contacts. And the Contactor Ring?

Were the new contacts a different shape?

Did the contactor ring on the plunger now make contact ON THE TOP of both contacts? Not the side.

So - You replaced the contacts. And the Contactor Ring? - Yes(contacts/plunger/spring)

Were the new contacts a different shape? The Starter contact was the same. And there were two other contacts, neither was exactly the same. Either would have been good and I chose one that was vaguely similar shape. The contact is good over a reasonable area and on top.

I can only assume that a previous solenoid upgrade was made and an incorrect contact used. Many thanks for the help and pointers

Well If I ever (I guess that is more a when question) have to do a rebuild I could add a kicker, they are not mutually exclusive are they?

Do you also have a Hailwood Replica?
