Default Compression tool for working on springer front ends?

Greetings Fellow Forum Members,

I am wondering it anyone manufacturers a tool to compress the springs on a springer to allow disassembly and reassembly of the nuts to install a shock damper kit on the forks.

I appreciate the tech support. I'm really going to trim out the new Springer with all the little bells and whistles that really make them ride nice.

(1). Once the springs are compressed and the acorn nut is released from the top springs - there's a collet bushing that then has to be unscrewed. I watched a guy on You tube do it and as he was wrenching off the collet bushing the thing blasted off the spring, hit the wall, ricochet off the other wall and flew by his head. So thanks for the spring compression tech support because I'm that guys brother.

(2) What is the procedure to get the big bottom springs off?

(3). I have heard that some of the older OEM Springer ran with double springs. Larger outer smaller inside of larger ones? Myth?

(4). Is there a special stem and bushings or do the stock sportster ones work?


Last night the Damper shock kit came in along with the head light, mount, a spring stabilizer - not the cheesy brass ones - this one is a nice match to the vintage springer in stainless.

I'm getting a set of the spring caps too, Gonna be Rollin a big ass 21"x3.25 up front wearing a nice fatty Metzger and a 140 Metzger in back.

All he lines and cables are gonna be braided stainless. Knurled pegs, grips - straight up old school killi'n machine.

Default New dampershock kits are heavy duty all steel now

Well the good news about the Springer fork damper shock kit is that instead of the light weight flimsy aluminum mounts and brackets that came on the old Springer damper kits - they are now made from thick chrome plated steel. A dramatic improvement.

If your going to add one to your Springer my recommendation is the Moto Iron kit - even though its a little more expensive its a better kit because it comes with new heavy duty rods that are longer to compensate for the additional thicknesses of the attachment plates and brackets. This doesn't put additional load on the springs. Well done.

Once you install one of these kits on your springer it immediately transforms the ride. The bike rides like a 67 Chevy or a Cadillac.

A couple of extra tricks are running the wide glide 21"x3.25 with the widest Merger that will fit. The bike feels likes its road glide and tracks the road really well.
