Default Jets.

Please can you tell me what size jets you all use in a 86-91 883 sportster xlh. My manual says main 160, slow 52. But here in the uk I dont seem to be able to find them sizes. Its running a harley carb (non cv) stamped 883 gua 15. I cant see what sizes are in now as the numbers are unrecognizable. Do I go up to the nearest size or down etc. Its also got baffled cocktail shaker pipes. I know its probably gonna be trail and error to get it right. Cheers, Dylan.

Generally, with more open pipes, or even a box stock bike, making the intermediate jet larger will improve driveability and prevent the Keihin Ka-sneeze. For your carb, if it is the original, there is an auxiliary intermediate circuit, and the best intermediate jet size will be somewhere between the stock size and .75 or .76. Anything larger will not work in my experience. Main jet may not need any change from stock. You need to find a range of jets and do some tuning.

Jim
