Denatured is ethanol with an additive that produces nausea - so you don't drink it. Also makes exempt from Federal tax.

Good idea and interesting info, Kitabel, though I've never been tempted to do so.

I'll go with pure ethanol or IPA, never know what the denaturiser that was used in the denaturised one. Can be anything that give a bad taste, even spoiled castor oil is used.

FWIW I read years ago that acetone was good for a final flush as it absorbs water quickly and evaporates out.

I have used acetone to clean steel parts after stamping/tumble deburring
It made the steel parts rust
My friend who owns a stamping house told me to use denatured alcohol, as acetone contains water and will rust steel parts
I have been using denatured alcohol since. No more rust

IIRC acetone degreases better, leaving less residual oil(s), making your steel parts very vulnerable to rust.

Good input - switching to denatured alcohol. :-)

That's why I used it, very aggressive solvent. But it do contain water
I just know denatured does a good enough job.
Acetone-cleaned parts would surface rust very quickly
