Default First post, 01 1200C controls question

Hi, I'll keep this short. Bought an '01 1200C ~28k mi and love it. This is my first Harley too. One thing is I've always rode with mid controls, and the stock forwards feel odd. Is the conversion to mids as simple as buying stock mid controls from sportster from the same era as mine? Or do I have to buy those expensive kits for a mounting location. I'm thinking I'd keep the front pegs as highway pegs too. Thanks for any help for a new sportster owner!

WELCOME TO THE XLFORUM...

Mid-controls from 1991-2003 models should swap onto the bike. Be sure to get all the pieces you'll need.

You might try your local HD dealer or a local Indy shop to see if they have take-off sets from bikes that got forward kits installed for their customers...

If in the US, you could check on Craigslist & eBay...

just done this on a 2001 sporty i'm doing up. absolutely simple. you'll find a thread on here where i posted what i did.
get EVERYTHING ready. it took me less than an hour.
gear side is straight forward.
this is how i did the brake side....
remove front silencer one nut and wiggle;
remove remaining bolts from the sprocket cover and the 2 that retain the master cylinder.
you then wiggle right hand at the stud the exhaust retaining nut came off whilst pulling and wiggling the back of the cover with your left hand whilt pushing .
as it wiggles toward you it will come slightly skewed. theres not much room but youget enough room toget the nut in to catch the thread on the pivot. remember the brake pedal and bits annd pieces need to be assembled onto the pivot stud and also remember the stiffener has to be in situ. that can then be done up accordingly.
refit the bolts into cover refit silencer and do up retaining bolt.
rod end , if not already fitted, can be screwed into master cylinder and connected to brake pedal. then adjust up/down position of the pedal to suit and its done
well thats how i did it anyway

i had more difficulty removing the forwards motormounts but if youre keeping them it dont matter
