Is your town small enough that you might actually get a helpful person on the phone if you called the police non-emergency number to ask them what you should do? As someone already posted, you might assume they check to see if it's valid before they write a ticket. But then again, these laws are as much for revenue generation as enforcement. And $65?? I've never heard of a ticket so cheap. You're lucky. I expect anything more than a parking ticket to be at least $200 here in MA.
