Doesn’t get any better than a true “C.O.B.B.er”, Brian is a true friend, thank you.
Parts arrived and spent three days tearing into it and making the repair. Big thanks to Greg,”Sprink”, who showed up the third day unannounced and assisted with the myriad of details wrapping her up. She fired right up and we put a 20 test on her before we both separated and left for our respective homes. Another test today running to my sons inShelby, without issue. Meeting Greg for breakfast in the morning, another ride.

Yeah, great to hear you are back up and riding.

Since my personal luck isn't terrible, I'm going to donate 98% of my luck to you for this upcoming riding season. I want to see you up and running this entire time and none of these roadside gatherings. This year, ride somewhere, gather when you get there (if you like that sort of thing), then ride some more. Leave your tools home, and I will start carrying mine just in case 2% isn't enough to keep me moving.

That’s a very kind offer, and would be so much appreciated, but it may be that a few less miles would save some wear and tear? My wrenching skills are improving daily and while
I joke about earning my Avatar daily to look back and rehash my experiences tearing down motors and splitting cases does give me a lot of personal satisfaction. When I reopened this thread,(something I probably should have kept posting into), I intended to start up at last years issues coming back from the C.O.B.B.II run with “Mark my son”,( skein), when Black Beauty decided to eat a lifter roller, the proceed through the process of pulling the HotRod bike out of storage and wrapping up with the cylinder studs. I think I’ll still do that in a day or two. Thanks everyone for being supportive, sharing experiences and offering advice. Great to have a forum family, eh?

Okay, in summary Black Beauty will be history, just need to pull off some expensive parts and replace with lesser take offs.
The HotRod bike has become front and center. It had been in storage about 6 years after I had rebuilt the tranny, it previously had the issue of skipping in first gear traced back to engagement dogs between first and third years having too much chamfer. Replacing first and third solved my problem.
Anyhow, new battery and thorough cleaning of the pilot jet in the Super E and she was running again! Got new tires on order and proceeded to remove electrical upgrades from Black Beauty over to the HotRod.
Had more than my share of issues with the wiring as the harnesses and routings differ between 2000 and 2004. With help from Ken,(IXL2Relax) and Jerry,(sportsterdoc), I got the bike back on the road again.
A trip to the Secretary of State for plate transfer after doing the insurance paper work and we were once again leagal and roadworthy, yea!
More to follow…..still earning my Avatar daily!
