Registration question
Hi guys, I forgot to renew my reg for my Sportster so there was a ticket on my bike this morning. I went online to NYDMV and renewed the reg but won’t get the sticker for … who knows, at least a week. My question is can they keep giving me tickets - I have the .pdf print of the now current registration but I’ll be inside my apartment while the agent is strolling the street.
The other question is should I take my 2024 sticker off my FX (which is off the road right now) and put it on my XLH until I get the sticker? Are the stickers specific to the bike? There is an 8-digit number above the 24 on the sticker but nothing to scan.
I don’t mind paying the $65 once- I did forget - but I hope not to pay more than once!
Thanks for any thoughts…
Rich

The last thing I'll do is swap plates between bike. Worth to find a close parking until you
get it plated.

Thanks yeah well it’s got plates the bike has been on the road for a few years it’s just the sticker. But I just realized this is a state thing so unless you’re in NY the law is prob different. I’m going to use my FX sticker for the time being…I think if an agent sees a big bold 24 they won’t bother it.

65 ouch.
i would make a note and attach to the machine that application applied for and put the reg number. but then again maybe ny popo isn't as laid back as here.
if riding, carry a copy of the pdf, not the original.
i carry my reg as a copy and marked across the front NOT for transfer purpose. had a friend who put a glass tube on his machine with the reg in it on the plate bracket, short story, machine was stolen and was sold with a new reg using affidavit by witness.

You would think the police would run the plate to see if the registration was current before writing the ticket.

Well it's a violation to display an expired sticker so they got me. DMV has been good about sending registration reminders long before the current reg expires but this time I got nothing for the Sportster.
In other exciting news my usual inspection place - a Ducati dealer - now refuses to inspect my bike unless I put the stock exhaust back on. They say they're following a new law but I read it and it doesn't specify "stock only." Oh well there's plenty of places to get an inspection sticker.

The LEO in Québec has a camera that recognized our plates, if expired, they have to stop you, the beeper go. The camera register the day and hour of the infraction; towing companies are all over the place the firsts few days of each months. No plate is 482$ and towing can go up to 80$ first 10 km and 2.65$ each additionally kilometer and impound is 15$ a day. So at 68$us you have a deal compare to us Quebecers.
We have to clear all expense before they release the vehicule.

law not really new, just enforcing fed mandates.
as in cali, any new system must meet carb regs.
yep around here you can get an inspection without even showing up with the machine

Wow! And I thought NYC was bad (it is) with the cameras and the motorcycle checkpoints (which thankfully I haven't seen in awhile). But $482 for a missing license plate seems pretty steep assuming the bike is legally registered. Around here if you run w/out a plate and get stopped, or if you park it on the street w/out a plate they can tow it away - and good luck getting it back until you empty your wallet.

Hmm...wonder how that works...they'll "inspect" the bike without seeing it?

I'd be tempted to get a large shipping box to 'park' in your spot & keep the bike inside...
Mark it as having Elevator Repair Parts... (Just thinking Out-Of-The-Box)
