Can you ride around like that?
It seems like it would catch the wind and try to pull the helmet off your head.

One of my helmets is a modular. I’ll flip it up in hot weather at slower speeds, or for things like talking when stopped, pumping gas, etc..
It’s ok up to about 35mph and then the wind does push against it more than I like.
I don’t think it’s as safe as a normal full helmet.

Really depends on the situation. Around town a 3/4, day rides a full face and for touring or IBA rides a modular.

I'm in the market for a new full face helmet. Most likely the Shoei RF1200.

I have never understood this 'false sense of security' thing. A helmet can't protect the majority of a rider's body, so they shouldn't feel more 'secure' in case of a possible crash.
While it's true that a head injury can easily be far more serious then an injury to a body, it ironically might not be as painful.

I think the "false sense of security" would more likely apply to the rider's family and friends. Anyone who wears a helmet knows that it's not a "Dome Of Invincability", if they don't.......
I wear a Modular Helmet because it's easier to deal with, wearing glasses. Lifting the chin works great for filling your bike, quick runs into the station, etc. Some states in the US have "Mask" laws and you can't wear a FF into a bank or Liquor Store, among other things. They aren't made for wearing open at speed, I mean what's the point. Those that wear FF helmets wear them to keep dirt, rain and the wind from peeling their face back at speed and they reduce travel fatigue. Safety?? I think rider experience and confidence would be more important than a helmet.
After all, what else in this world gives you power and speed without Airbags, Seatbelts, Rollcages and exposure to the elements than a MOTORCYCLE...and it's still legal!

My helmet started out as a safety deal, and morphed into a comfort multiplier since I spend most of my time over 70mph.
It has been proven that the more safety features a machine has the more risk tolerant we get thinking that the machine will protect us. Saying that, Toejam’s statement is not far off.
There was a good article about it and I will see if I can find it later.
We see it here at work. The company issues impact gloves and people start putting their hands in stupid places thinking that the gloves will save them. All it does is keep the end of a finger from being lost. Helmets and gear can’t protect against stupid.

I tried out the Shoei RF-SR and RF-1200.
I bought the RF-SR as it was the most comfortable and quietest for me.
I've worn a full face since the mid 70's and have been down many times when young and crazy. I've walked away from wrecks were there was a big white streak on the ground and a hole worn part through the helmet.
No preaching, I'm convinced and I wear a helmet... all the time.

Many years ago, my USMC platoon sergeant said there was no such thing as “idiot proof”. There are only degrees of idiot resistance.
