Another question here. Is it possible to find any exact fit replacement brake calipers and discs with better stopping power?
The reason is even my XLX have dual front disc brakes, it`s stopping power just sucks as hell.
The calipers do some small rattle like here but nothing bad and this is not the problem imo.
The rear brake is working just fine. I can block the rear wheel if needed.
But the front...
When the bike is stopped, I can block the front wheel when pushing bike back and forward. But when it`s moving - no way. Two fingers on brake? Forget! Four or five fingers? Still no.
And when it`s cold or wet, if you apply only front brake, you probably will find yourself finally stopped somewhere near Alaska. Hope so.

Performance Machine and GMA (or whoever bought bought them) sell redesigned calipers.
You can also get repops from Ted, CC, & Drag.
I have taken to adapting Japanese brakes.

Which ones? My previous bike braking perfomance was really great and I someday probably will look forward for jap brakes too.

Thanx! On dn-01 forum i was in position of knowlegebase and the first ever who bought 660 pages service manual and made it available online in pdf. I even remeber the most torques of the bike.
In HD...well, I'm total newfag The only thing helps me here is that Ironhead is far far simplier to wrench. And the great stickies you all made here together. On dn-01 only wire harness diagram was 3 a4 pages.

I put Russell drilled stainless rotors and EBC Kevlar pads on the front brakes of my '83 and that improved the braking. It's still not one-finger braking like on Japanese bikes, but it's good enough for me.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

The head of a about 8"crescent wrench works good on my primary insp plug. It's curved so it fits down into the plug.

And here is our show "lost and found" back online. The messages from previous owner are always exciting. "When you don't give a xxxxx which oil pressure sensor to buy".
