Default Flooding carb when warm

Help/advice needed please, I own a xl1200c carb model (2000) when I start the bike from cold it starts fine although wont accelerate on full choke, when warm she spits and coughs a little but runs ok....ish, the problem starts when re starting after say 5-10 mins she struggles to start and fuel drips out of the air cleaner ...... my bike has a new carb fitted which I thought would rectify the problem also a new ign module, manifold seals. Hoping someone out there can help as I'm lost for ideas apart from maybe valves??? Thanks in advance ...

Welcome... If you have a vacuum petcock, it may be sticking open (may need a new one or rebuild). Also it sounds like your carb float/needle isn't shutting off the gas flow either.

CV don't have a choke. It has an enrichener.
You're not trying to run long with it open are you?

valves could be the issue
when it starts doing it, remove the cleaner and get a good look-see. if the valves are leaky, it will spray manifold fuel out.
another half baked test is shut the fuel off and idle for 30 seconds and then restart with fuel off, if issues are improved might take a look at the level and correct procedure.

Bustert, yes I reckon that the valves are the problem .... what sort of damage to the vaves would cause this problem ie sticky/bent, thanks in advance & thanks for your response

You can do a compression test to see if there is a problem with the valves before you tear it down.
Procedure is in the Sportsterpedia.
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...:ref:svcproc20
Leakdown test here.
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...:ref:svcproc21

edit:
I'd look into intake and vacuum leaks also.
