Default What is this line and where does it connect to?

I noticed this line was never hooked up to anything when I started to take my bike apart. Does it just stay freely open like that or does it connect to something? It has a nipple on the end like it should connect to something. I followed the line and it looks like it connects to the frame which seems kinda odd to me. (I’m new to Harley’s)

Looks like the fuel tank vent line.

So just a vent that stays open? Doesn’t connect to anything?

It connects to the vent nipple on the bottom of the tank and runs down below the bike to vent to atmosphere or a canister on the California emission models. In your case it looks like it vents down using the backbone? Unless it's dead-ended there.

There's a small one way type valve it connects to that clamps on the frame in front of the battery and another hose on the other end going down under the frame.
In the center of the photo attached to the frame. On Euro models and CA models I think it continues under the frame and connects to a canister.

There is a tube that runs to the fuel bung on the tank. this tube passes through the tank and attaches to this line allowing gas vapors to escape safely behind the hot engine through the downtube.

hope that helps in the explanation.
