I never get anything like that. I used to get that sort of thing on my carby with a 4.5 tank.

That's normal on a bike with a carb and a petcock as you approach needing to switch to reserve. When it happens on an EFI bike it's a fuel pick-up issue, which the 4.5 gal tanks seem to have as you drop below 1 gallon in the tank. I seem to recall Aaron (Thunder Performance) also mentioning this occurring.

My partner's 2008 Sportster Custom trike conversion does around 120 miles until the low level light comes on so I top up when she needs to fill up.
I have a fuel gauge that thinks I am good for around 220 miles. That would be to empty.
I have only run the level down low once when we had a petrol shortage a while ago. I did about 25 miles once the low light came on and never experienced any coughing or spluttering from the engine. I would of had less than 3 litres left, 0.8 US gallons.

Last year I managed to get almost 200 miles to one tankful. Last Wednesday evening, I went out, the low fuel light did not come on at all (is this related to having an FP3 fitted?) and ran dry at 167 miles. Had to push it almost one mile to the nearest Tesco fuel station as I had left my phone at home. Glad I didn't go the other way home as I would have been stranded in the middle of nowhere with a longer walk.
Bike took on 16.4 litres (don't want to confuse UK and US gallons, at least litres are consistent).
I have 13" rear shocks fitted to my Superlow so I am also thinking that the jiffy stand could be leaning the bike over further than normal which robs a little volume.
Does anyone know if other Sporties have a longer jiffy stand?

Yes, 13" on a superlow will make a little difference. I have the same. I noticed I can squeeze just about another quarter gallon fully upright.
