“Scunthorpe looks great”, you don’t hear THAT very often.

There ARE Sportsters racing over here, James Jordan got in the Rookie Final at Ammanford on his one, but they aren’t common and the Hooligan class is a separate series really.

There is one Ironhead in particular doing passably well in the Vintage class but generally, Evo Sportsters are something of a minority. They did well in the first Hooligan events, but then the Indians arrived and it was “game over” although there are still some racing.

I bought mine because having grown up watching On Any Sunday on actual film, at motorcycle club nights in pubs, I wasn’t going to hang up my boots until I’d ridden a Harley on the mile... now I’ve ridden a AMA-spec, factory-racing-parts Sportster on a half-Mile trotting track, and ridden in the same meeting as Dave Aldana so whatever I do next, I’m ahead of the game as I see it.

Track racing generally is on the ropes over here. Grasstrack is in obvious decline, speedway is so involved in its own poisonous internal politics which have mostly killed off the amateur side which was quite busy in the 90s and 2000s. Super-motard came and went as the sponsorship faded away.

Flat track has staged a remarkable growth from pretty much nowhere, but it’s a long way behind motocross.
