Default Generator rotation cw or ccw?

Confusion in regards to generator rotation.

oem 29975-65a

74 xlh Rotation clockwise or counter clockwise (from which view)?
77 xlh Rotation clockwise or counter clockwise (from which view)?

I want to make sure I order the correct generator as I installed a new one and it burnt up. I did not know about rotation.

Thanks.

77 Gen rotation should be CW as viewed from left side of bike. 74 should be same. Look at page 3-34 of FM, and count the rotations in case I'm wrong.

A '65a gen will work either way, but you wouldn't want to reverse one without changing to new brushes. They spin as Mr. crashter stated. They all spin the same way, there's no such thing as a reverse genny. The FM is the factory manual.

you can tell by looking at the bevel on the brushes as to which
direction it should turn

I have never heard of this reverse gen thing before. Are we certain about this?

With the gen on the bench and the gear pointing away from you, rotation is clockwise.
