Default FYI J&P Cycles bought out by Comoto Holdings

Comoto Holdings now owns J&P Cycles AND Revzilla AND Cycle Gear.

Comoto Press Release

Quote:

Philadelphia, PA (January 31, 2020) – Comoto Holdings, parent company of leading moto enthusiast brands RevZilla and Cycle Gear, today announced it has acquired J&P Cycles, the industry’s largest omni-channel retailer of aftermarket products for the American V-Twin rider. With this acquisition, Comoto Holdings becomes the definitive market leader in yet another robust segment of the powersports aftermarket-products industry.

J&P Cycles will continue to operate as a distinct and differentiated retail brand, under the daily operational leadership of industry icon and long-time J&P Cycles veteran, Zach Parham, who joins the Comoto executive leadership team as president of J&P Cycles.

“We are thrilled to welcome Zach and the talented team from J&P Cycles into the Comoto Family of Brands,” said Ken Murphy, CEO of Comoto Holdings. “J&P’s decades-long legacy of exceptional service and selection are hallmark tenets of each and every Comoto retail brand and will remain a driving force behind our continued high-growth in the years to come.”

“J&P Cycles was built on obsession with customer service and offering the best product selection for riders,” said Zach Parham, president of J&P Cycles. “Comoto shares these same values. Each retail brand in the Comoto Family has complementary strengths and we are excited to leverage those strengths, to take J&P Cycles to the next level.”

With this transaction now finalized, organizational efforts are underway to facilitate a seamless integration of J&P Cycles into the Comoto platform and to ensure ‘ride-season readiness’ for all three retail brands.

“As a platform for many of the industry’s most storied retail brands, our commitment to our customers is to preserve the legacy brand-attributes that matter most to them, while also unlocking the full selection, service, and savings benefits our customers deserve when shopping within the Comoto Family of Brands,” said Murphy.
About Comoto Holdings

Comoto Holdings is America’s largest and fastest growing omni-channel platform in the powersports aftermarket-products industry; dedicated to advancing the experience of moto enthusiasts across the globe. Comoto’s brands, RevZilla, Cycle Gear, and now J&P Cycles, deliver premium products, dedicated expertise, engaging media, and passionate customer support of the rider community, through best-in-class ecommerce and retail experiences.

Competition between branded-vendors held by the same parent is superficial. It's an easy matter to have two of the vendors offering product x at $250 while the other vendor sells it at $210, making the appearance of a bargain, while shopping around non-parented vendors may yield a price of $190...

It makes me think of the vendors on eBay that have the exact same product from $25 to $65, trying to capture some of the stupid customers at the higher price levels...

In the end, when the economy has a down-turn, consolidation will be the goal and at least one of those branded-vendors will be considered for elimination...

Monopolies rarely (if ever) benefit the buying public...

The free market competition that benefits the buyer requires independent vendors, of similar strength, vying for customer dollars.

The classic supply/demand model for competitive market improvement requires a minimum of three healthy competitors. Without several healthy competitors, the market isn't driven to maximize choice and quality. It's one of the principal failures of non-free market economies.

However, the classic model struggles with the Internet's pseudo marketplace. Online retailers such as J&P vs storefront like Cycle Gear sometimes address completely different markets. Time will tell .

J&P is really both. They probably do more online tho. Even I would call the store 50 miles from me and have it delivered from wherever the warehouse happened to be that stocked the item if not at the store. I was assured free delivery that way no matter how small the purchase. Calling the online people direct almost always included a delivery charge.

Interesting. Just looked and Comoto/RevZilla is located not too far from my office in Philly. I ordered from J&P once and it was a shit show. Super small sample size so could be an isolated incident but if not I hope things improve.
