You're right. Pigtails for a 1 amp tender should be 10 ga. How could I have overlooked the obvious.

Flashing red light indicates that the AC is hooked up correctly, and the Battery leads are either not hooked up correctly OR... The battery is really discharged (like below 3V).

So you can leave it hooked up for a bit and see if that red light gets to where it stays on steady (that means it's charging now). If the red light continues to flash after about an hour or so, then that battery may be toast.

Try hooking it up to your car battery just to see if it acts normal on there.

I have had batteries where the tender flashed for a while, then went solid red and all was good.

You did clip the leads directly to the battery posts, so the size of your adaptor leads isn't the issue.

I personally ditch the Jap looking side covers (I think they look silly on a Harley and just get in the way), and then I just clip my tender on whichever bike I am not using at the moment. I use the Positive battery post, and the closest head bolt for ground.
