Yes, the design of the center stand was a pure afterthought.
It requires a huge effort to get the bike on it.
I had one in my stash and it is useful for me on the bike lift. Normally I make a stand for every bike I work on that needs to go on the lift. The stand gets bolted to the lift and holds the bike steady while I'm working on it.
Sometimes, for short periods I just use tie downs.
I think there was some guy in Utah who had one on his bike for several weeks. But that was many years ago. Before he was committed to an insane asylum.
