Yes dry first then a shot of my oil in there which help seals the rings better and got a higher reading

EDIT: If it was not warmed up then anything over 80 or 90 is good. Best to do a properly warmed up test when it is convenient.

If the schrader valve is on the side of the gauge and not the end of the hose, you're adding the volume of the hose to the volume of the combustion chamber. I'm not talking about the release.
Mine was a difference of 45psi. Big difference.
Longer the hose, the lower it reads.

If oil improved the compression I believe that indicates worn rings. a bad intake valve could cause a cough from the carb or throttle body. Bad exhaust valve is harder to detect.
What engine do you have? mileage? model year? any blue smoke from the exhaust? Plugs fouling?
I like to write down everything that seems to be wrong and then see how it all connects.

71 xlch Ironhead 900cc...mileage unknown..no blue smoke at all when it kicked over ...n yes oil improved it

Ok so didn't open choke...open throttle on second go...saw on video by low brow.
