Default Sportster

Hey everyone I am new to the iron head community and a young blood rider. Considering this is my first Harley. I have a 73 XLH frame and a 74 XLCH engine with kickstart and electric start. Still has points and has a S&S super e carb. Bike runs great at idle and up to about 25% throttle. If you jab throttle or crack it she pops like crazy. While riding it hesitates and pops then takes off. So if anyone has ideas I’m open to them. Like I said I’m new to the bike so I haven’t been through everything. I redid all the wiring to spec from the service guide.

You should go through all the tune-up basics so you know everything is right.

They don't call me Ironhead Rick just because I'm hard headed

If bike set for awhile before you got it with methanol fuel the E is ready for a tear down and a good cleaning and I think this will fix your problem.

Welcome from France!

Better to post your questions in the ironhead section, some good lads on there, and more will see and help.
Give as much bike info as you can.

Young(ish) blood here as well..

Best thing you can do is a tune up and read the manuals.

I opted to keep the points ignition, I like it better than electronics..

If you keep the points, only buy the Blue Streak points set. The JP and other kits are all crap.

Popping from the carb is usually a sign of being lean. Have you adjusted the accelerator pump?

My bike would not even start with older gas, then it would barely even idle. Get the best gas you can get.

This thread might be a good read for you.... http://xlforum.net/forums/showthread.php?p=5760054

BTW..... if you could edit your original post #1, and update the subject line with something a little more meaningful..... the next guy reading this thread, 6 months from now, will undoubtedly appreciate it. But, as always, do whatever works for you.

Welcome from the Land Down Under.

I still remember my first ride on an Ironhead. Big Big Grin.
